Champions League Standings, Man City to the Top, Real Madrid Drowning

Manchester City managed to solidify its position at the top of Group C after picking a 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in a Champions League match on Tuesday (10/01/2019) or Wednesday early morning WIB. The results of the Man City vs Dinamo Zagreb match held at the Etihad Stadium placed The Citizens at the top of Group C with a collection of six points. Man City are three points ahead of Dinamo Zagreb who are in second place. Three goals from Juventus were presented by Gonzalo Higuain (17 ‘), Federico Bernardeschi (61’) and Cristiano Ronaldo (88 ‘). At the same time, the match of the other two Group D teams, Lokomotiv Moscow vs Atletico Madrid ended with a score of 0-2. Atletico won thanks to two goals scored by Joao Felix (48 ‘) and Thomas Partey (58’).

Although Atletico also won, the top of Group D standings remain Juventus. The Great Lady has the right to occupy the top of the standings because of superior goal difference over Atletico even though both teams are both collecting four points from two matches. Atletico must be willing to occupy second place in Group D and followed by Lokomotiv Moscow, which trailed in third place with three points. The Bayer Leverkusen is increasingly buried at the bottom of the standings because it has not managed to pocket any points from the two matches that have been played.

In Group A, Spanish giants Real Madrid actually sank to the bottom of the standings after only a draw against Club Brugge. The Madrid vs Club Brugge match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium ended with a score of 2-2. Acting as the host, Real Madrid actually had left behind 0-2 because of two goals scored by Emmanuel Bonaventure in the 9th and 39th minutes. Los Blancos – Madrid’s nickname – only managed to equalize in the second half thanks to goals from Sergio Ramos (55 ‘) and Casemiro (85’). This draw makes Madrid immersed in the bottom of the Group A standings after only being able to collect one point from two matches. Meanwhile, an additional one point from Real Madrid’s cage makes Club Brugge ranked second in Group A with two points. The top of Group A still belongs to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) who managed to embarrass Galatasaray at the Turk Telekom Arena. Galatasaray duel vs PSG ended with the score 0-1. PSG’s winning goal was born from the action of Mauro Icardi in the 52nd minute. This victory also confirmed PSG’s position at the top of the standings with a perfect collection of six points from two matches. Galatasaray is ranked third with a collection of one point, the same as Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, in Group B, Bayern Munich managed to party a goal at home to Tottenham Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Tottenham v Bayern Munich match ended with a landslide score of 2-7 for the visitors’ victory. Die Roten – Bayern’s nickname – partyed seven goals against Tottenham thanks to the actions of Joshua Kimmich (15 ‘), Robert Lewandowski (45’, 87 ‘), and Sarge Gnarby (53’, 55 ‘, 83’, 88 ‘). The host only managed to steal two goals scored by Song Heung-min in the 12th minute and Harry Kane’s penalty in the 61st minute. This crushing victory brought Bayern to the top of Group B with six points. The Tottenham are still stuck in third place in Group B after only being able to gain one point from two matches. The second position in the Group B standings is Red Star Belgrade who won three points after beating Olympiacos 3-1.
